It all starts with a good moult
The moult is not the end of the season. It is the start of the next.
You have spent months caring for your pigeons. The feathers growing now will carry them through the whole season ahead. Getting this stage right matters: a fault in a new feather can last for months.
Three mistakes you can avoid, with practical care that fits your loft routine.
Does more feed mean better feathers?
The feeder is full. Your pigeons are eating well. But are they getting what they need?
Methionine is an essential amino acid involved in forming keratin, the protein that makes up feathers. Feeding more of the same mixture does not guarantee enough methionine and other essential amino acids.
Start with a diet suited to the moult. If it needs supplementing, choose one suitable product and follow its recommended schedule consistently.

In the water or with the feed?
If their diet needs a supplement, choose a way of giving it that fits your routine.

What is damaging their feathers?
You are taking care of their diet, yet some feathers look damaged. Before adding another supplement, check for parasites.
Feather lice feed on the plumage. Replacing old feathers does not guarantee that the lice disappear.
In good light, check the underside of the wings and tail for small insects among the feathers. If you find parasites, bath treatment can make caring for the plumage easier.

Let their bathing routine help
If you find external feather parasites, New Ambush can be added to the bath water. As your pigeons bathe, the treatment comes into contact with their plumage.
The useful check afterwards? Notice which birds actually bathe.
Follow the labelled dilution and treatment schedule, and check which birds actually bathe. More preening can be normal during the moult; on its own, it does not confirm parasites.
Could the drinker spread problems?
They all drink from the same place. Caring for that water is a practical way to reduce the risk of germs passing between your pigeons.
Alongside cleaning the drinker, you can use a product intended for drinking-water care. Here are two options.

Choose your water-care approach
For acidification, Röhnfried Avidress Plus lowers the pH of drinking water, making conditions less favourable for certain microorganisms.
Prowins TDS Oxy Plus combines acidifying properties with a disinfecting action to help reduce germs in the water and their transmission through the drinker.
Choose one approach alongside regular drinker cleaning.
Choose one option. Do not mix TDS Oxy Plus with Avidress Plus or other acidifiers. Check compatibility before adding supplements or medicines to the same water.
Preventive care helps reduce risks; it does not replace necessary treatment. Avoid unnecessary medication during the moult, as some medicines can affect developing feathers.
A quick check on their progress
Look at the birds, not just the fallen feathers
Watch their appetite, body condition and new feathers. Repeated feather faults or persistent changes in droppings deserve attention.
Try the light check
Gently open a wing and angle it towards a light source. Reflections along the feather shafts can reveal small irregularities that are easy to miss. A mark alone does not identify the cause.
Ease the workload and check when they finish
Allow voluntary exercise without demanding race-season flying times. Handle new feathers gently. Even when the body looks renewed, the last flight feathers may still be growing: check each group before switching to winter feeding.
